A TRIBUTE TO MARI EVANS...

The Indianapolis (IN) chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Big Car, Inc., the Indiana Arts Commission and others celebrated the life and works of Mari Evans, a legend in the Black Arts Movement. Inspired by her mentor, Langston Hughes, and other noted artists, Mari's work has influenced generations.  Her work has appeared in more than 100 publications.

A mural, painted by Michael AlKempi Jordan, is part of a public arts project for Indianapolis. This mural is displayed on the Davlan Building, located in downtown Indianapolis. City County Councilman of District 15, Vop Osili, presented Ms. Evans with a proclamation from the city declaring August 13 as Mari Evans day in Indianapolis.
